Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

1. Controller

The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable data protection laws is:

Thomas Schnabel
Querweg 21
26127 Oldenburg
Germany

Email: notencheck@schnabel.it

2. This Website (www.schnabel.it/notencheck)

2.1 No cookies, no tracking

This website sets no cookies and uses no tracking of any kind. No analytics services such as Google Analytics, Matomo or similar tools are used. There are no social media trackers, no advertising pixels and no external tracking resources.

Because no cookies are set, no cookie banner is required.

2.2 No external resources

This website loads all resources (CSS, JavaScript, fonts) exclusively from its own server. No external CDNs, Google Fonts or other third-party services that could collect data about visitors are integrated.

2.3 Server log files

The hosting provider automatically collects and stores information in server log files that your browser transmits automatically. This includes:

  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL (the previously visited page)
  • Hostname of the accessing computer
  • Time of the server request
  • IP address (anonymized)

This data is not combined with other data sources. To detect connection problems, your browser may also send technical error reports to the hosting provider (Network Error Logging). Collection is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the technically error-free provision of the website). The log data is stored by the hosting provider only for a short time and then deleted automatically; details can be found in its privacy policy.

Hosting provider: Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA (Cloudflare Pages). Privacy policy: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy

Data may also be processed in the USA. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF); in addition, EU Commission Standard Contractual Clauses are in place as safeguards under Art. 46 GDPR for transfers to third countries.

3. Notencheck App

3.1 Principle: local storage

The Notencheck app stores all data exclusively locally on your device and optionally in your personal, private iCloud. No data is transmitted to the developer or any third party.

3.2 What data the app stores

The app stores only the data you enter yourself:

  • Profile: Your name and optional profile picture
  • School years: Names of school years
  • Subjects: Subject name, color, icon, teacher name, weighting settings
  • Grades: Grade values, date, category, notes
  • Appointments: Exam dates, date, type, notes
  • Timetable: Lessons, times, A/B weeks
  • Homework: Description, due date, status and optional photo attachments
  • App settings: Grading system (1–6 or 0–15), display options
  • Achievements: Unlocked achievements (locally)

3.3 iCloud synchronization

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, the app automatically synchronizes your data via Apple's CloudKit (private iCloud database). Apple's privacy policy applies:

  • Data is stored in your personal, private iCloud database
  • Only you have access — neither the developer nor Apple can view this data
  • More information: Apple's Privacy Policy

You can disable iCloud sync at any time in iOS Settings under Apple ID → iCloud → Notencheck.

3.4 Push notifications

Exam reminders are scheduled as local notifications directly on your device. No server is contacted in this process. The app does not use remote push notifications.

You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings under Settings → Notifications → Notencheck.

3.5 Photos (profile picture, homework attachments)

When you add a profile picture or a photo to a homework task, the app receives only the images you select yourself through the iOS photo picker (PhotosPicker) — it has no access to the rest of your photo library. Selected images are stored exclusively locally and in your iCloud.

3.6 AI assistant and voice input

The assistant lets you add grades, homework and exams with a sentence and ask questions about your entries. All processing takes place exclusively on your device:

  • Language understanding: On devices with Apple Intelligence, the app uses Apple's language model that runs directly on the device (Foundation Models). Without Apple Intelligence, the app interprets sentences itself using rules.
  • Voice input: The app asks for permission to use the microphone only when you start dictation. The recording is converted to text on the device using Apple's speech recognition, is not stored and is not transmitted. iOS downloads the required language pack from Apple once; no recordings or content are transmitted in the process.
  • No transmission: Your sentences, grades, homework and exams are not sent to the developer, to Apple or to any other third party. No online AI service is used.

You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings under Settings → Apps → Notencheck.

3.7 No account, no registration

The app requires no user account, no email address and no registration. No personal data is collected to use the app.

3.8 Advertising in the free version (Google AdMob)

The free version of Notencheck shows a small advertising banner at the bottom of the screen, provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). We use exclusively non-personalized ads (NPA) — this setting is hardcoded in the app and cannot be changed. No user profiling or behavioral tracking for advertising purposes takes place.

To serve non-personalized ads, Google AdMob processes minimal technical data, such as device information and an approximate location based on the IP address. This processing is carried out by Google in accordance with their privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in financing the free app). Data may also be transferred to servers of Google LLC in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) (safeguard under Art. 45 GDPR).

GDPR consent for EU and EEA users

On first launch in the EU or EEA, the Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) SDK automatically displays a consent form compliant with the IAB TCF. This dialog is legally required even when exclusively non-personalized ads are served — it does not enable personalized advertising. Consent is optional — if declined, non-personalized ads are still shown.

Consent can be withdrawn or updated at any time in the app under Settings → Privacy → Change Ad Preferences.

App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

Notencheck does not show the ATT dialog and does not request permission to track. The app does not track in the sense of Apple's guidelines: every ad request is hardcoded to non-personalized ads.

3.9 Notencheck Pro — ad-free

With the one-time in-app purchase Notencheck Pro (€0.99), all advertising is permanently and completely removed from the app. The Google AdMob SDK is then not initialized, and no advertising data is processed. The purchase is one-time, with no subscription, and is made through the Apple App Store (StoreKit 2). Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase transaction itself.

3.10 App Store

The app is downloaded via the Apple App Store. Apple's privacy policy applies in this context. Apple collects data according to its own privacy policy.

4. Data deletion

You can delete all data stored in the app at any time yourself:

  • Individual data: Within the app by deleting individual entries
  • All app data: iOS Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Notencheck → Delete App
  • iCloud data: Deleted automatically when you delete the app

5. Your rights

Since all data is stored exclusively locally on your device and in your personal iCloud, you have complete control over it at all times. You have the right to:

  • Access your stored data (located on your device)
  • Rectification of inaccurate data (directly in the app)
  • Erasure of your data (directly in the app or by uninstalling)
  • Restriction of processing
  • Data portability
  • Object to processing

For privacy questions, contact: notencheck@schnabel.it

6. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority for Lower Saxony (Germany) is:

Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen
Prinzenstraße 5
30159 Hannover
Germany
Email: poststelle@lfd.niedersachsen.de

7. Changes

This privacy policy is currently valid as of September 2026. Due to further development of the app or changed legal requirements, it may be necessary to update this privacy policy. You can access the current version at any time on this page.
